About Kaufman County

Kaufman County is located to the east and southeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with a population of about 123,000 people. Its county seat is the city of Kaufman. The county was established in 1848, and both the county and city were named for Texan, diplomat, and US Representative David S. Kaufman. Western artist Frank Reaugh used Kaufman County as inspiration for his paintings, including the 1902 painting titled “The Approaching Herd”.

Kaufman County is home to twelve cities, six towns, two villages, two census-designated places, and 31 unincorporated communities. It sits adjacent to Hunt County to the north; Van Zandt County to the east; Henderson County to the south; Ellis County to the southwest; Dallas County to the west; and Rockwall County to the northwest.

Weather Concerns in Kaufman County

As a part of the DFW Metroplex, Kaufman County has a warm climate where air conditioning is used more often than heating. North Texas summer heat often rises near and over 100 degrees, but a little ice and sleet in winter is not uncommon. Kaufman County’s rural landscape makes it a prime target for tornado and wind damage, especially during the severe weather season between the months of March and May.

Common HVAC Complaints

HVAC issues in Kaufman County usually have to do with AC units that have stopped working properly or at all. Because of the overwhelming heat in the summertime, air conditioners have to fight to keep home interiors as cool as homeowners would like. Sometimes people set their thermostats too low, causing the unit to run constantly and eventually overwork itself. Others don’t realize that AC units need regular maintenance and cleaning, so theirs might freeze or get clogged with dirt and dust. When this happens, it’s best to call in a professional to deal with the unit’s fragile and hard-to-reach components.
