About Dallas County

Dallas County has a population of almost 3 million people, making it the second-most populous county in Texas and ninth in the nation. Founded in 1846, there is some dispute over the county’s namesake, though it is thought to be named for George M. Dallas, the 11th Vice President of the United States. Dallas County is the eastern half of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and is adjacent to Collin County to the north; Rockwall County to the east; Kaufman County to the southeast; Ellis County to the South; Tarrant County to the West; and Denton County to the Northwest.

The city of Dallas is the county seat of Dallas County, which is made up of 26 cities, three towns, and served by 16 independent school districts. It is home to Love Field Airport and part of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The Dallas County Courthouse, known for its unusual architecture, is a registered state antiquities landmark.

The Weather in Dallas County

There is a joke that Texas has four seasons: Hot, Hotter, Hottest, and Ice. There is some truth to that. Aside from a bit of ice in the winter, Texas is a pretty warm state year-round. Our summer temperatures veer into the triple digits almost every year. Central and South Texas get the most extreme heat, but North Texas gets its share as well. The warmest month in Dallas is July with an average temperature of 95 degrees. The coldest month is January when daytime temperatures only reach an average high of 54 degrees.

Besides the heat, Dallas is known for its severe weather between the months of March and May. Situated at the bottom of Tornado Alley, Dallas sees more than its share of high winds, tornadoes, and hailstorms every year. These can cause damage to outside air conditioning units. Extreme heat can cause units to freeze up and develop icy buildup on the condenser coil. We’re familiar with all these problems and many more.

Common HVAC Complaints

Most of the AC breakdowns we see in Dallas County are caused by the unit working too hard to cool a home. This can occur when outside temperatures are too hot, when the unit needs to be cleaned, or when the thermostat is set too low. In these cases, the air conditioner cannot keep up with the demand for cool air, so it either blows warm air or stops working completely.
